LIVING in LIVINGston and surrounding towns of New Jersey

Life in Livingston, Short Hills, Millburn, Summit, Madison, Chatham, East Hanover, West Orange and the surroundings of NJ/NY

It's 2 o'clock on Tuesday. Do you know where the animals are?

Hey, it's officially 2pm on Tuesday! Do you know what that means?

FREE admission for everyone to the Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange, NJ! Right behind the Codey Arena at South Mountain, you'll find the entrance to a cute and quaint little zoo.

Yes, they make a big deal about the fact that Turtle Back Zoo is now an accredited zoo. That means they have a hospital and other upgraded facilities that will ensure the best health and protection for the animals and a great experience for the kids visiting the destination.

We're going to try out the free choo choo train ride around the South Mountain lake as well as the new animal carousel, which isn't actually free...$2.00 :( But at least we save on the $8 admission for adults as well as the $4 admission for kids it normally takes to get into the zoo.

See you there!

    UPDATE:

WOW! They really upgraded the zoo! Not just the carousel and playground, but overall they installed new benches and play areas, refurbished some of the exhibits (see the cougar trail!), put in a new pony ride trail in the back.

The SUPER DUPER experience of the day? The new aviary where you can go in and buy a birdseed stick for $2 and have some of the TONS OF BIRDS fly and land on your hand to eat the birdfood. It was so much fun the kids didn't want to leave the enclosed aviary section -- we stayed there for almost 20-30 min I think.
