Early Santa Sighting on South Livingston Avenue

Yes, it's before Thanksgiving, but Santa has a lot of work to do...You better watch out if you're naughty or nice, because Santa just might be driving by your house today -- in fact, Santa Claus was spotted on South Livingston Avenue today. . .

Seen Around Town

Have you seen this sign in Livingston?

HINT: Of all places, it's actually a kid-friendly place.
You can read it where there's tons of other books and magazines and kid's reading materials to read too (and buy). Which is near the BORDER(s) of Livingston...

Snap Crackle POP in Livingston

We're not talking breakfast here.

At 9:10 a.m. on November 13th in front of the St. Philomena's church on South Livingston Avenue, a transformer blew up or something major happened...

I was driving by and after I passed the church and stopping for the next light, there was a super bright flash of lightening in the sky; the traffic lights went out and when looking back in the mirror, it just looked like a massive white light fireworks display on a telephone pole on the south bound side of South Livingston Avenue. Everyone just stopped dead in the street, not moving any cars for a couple of minutes.

The police station said they'd check it out and in 5-10 minutes, you could see a bunch of emergency vehicles racing to the scene...

I wonder what happened...

A Very Liquid Experience

If you're in Essex or Morris County, you have to head over to the Morristown Hyatt at least once on a Sunday.

Liquid Church has taken over the conference and meeting space in the hotel every Sunday to carry our 3 church worship services - 10am, 4pm, 6:30pm.

Led by Pastor Tim Lucas, it's definitely one of the contemporary post-modern church experiences everyone should have at least once. More than likely, you'll fall in love with the energy and tangibly "feeling" people worship God.

This ain't the church you grew up with. Get ready to experience worship in a very very new way.

I thought this worship style was only available on the West Coast at a New Song Church or North Coast Church type setting, but East Coasters definitely can have it too!

Vacation Bug With Ears

As it officially gets chilly around town, it's time to start thinking about a warm winter vacation!

Our family loves heading south to visit the kids' mecca -- Orlando, FL.

If you're headed south to Disney or the surrounding areas of Orlando, it's definitely a great way to ensure great childhood memories for your kids. But the astronomical costs could make it a different kind of memory for your wallet.

If you're thinking about going to Disneyworld, I'm sure you're asking around for tips from anyone else that you know has gone recently. If each person offers just one single tip that might save you time and money, or direct you in the way of better sights and scenes, it's worth it, right?

How about advice from an ex-Disney employee? Beth Harworth, an former Disney employee has written a guide for the Happiest Place on Earth, that's updated monthly.

In addition to tips on how to save money on tickets, lodging, airfare, etc. She offers advice on tons of different topics for you Disney vacation like:

disney worldWhat to Do On a Rainy Day – Yes, it rains in sunny Florida as well! Solve that problem with fun and adventurous tips

disney worldThe One Park You Should Visit Last! (Especially with young children.) This one will definitely surprise you!

disney worldHungry? Find out what’s OK to bring inside the Parks with you – and what you should leave at the hotel.

disney worldHow To Beat Those Long Lines – Did you know it makes a difference if you stand in the Right or Left line? It does – find out which one typically moves the fastest.

disney worldHidden Entrances – There are several “shortcuts” to theme parks and attractions - bypassing most of the crowds.

How much were you guestimating that you'd pay for the entire trip including airfare, taxi to the hotel, lodging, meals, souvenirs, tickets and all the other little expenses that add up?
Your vacation is going to set you back a couple of thousand dollars, right?

Well, for $30 (and it comes with a money-back guarnatee) it's probably worth the money to read this guide and find at least one tip that will make your money back on your purchase.

Cheap ink. Cheap service.

Cheap ink in this case comes with free cheap service.

One place I personally will not go back for inkjet cartridge refills is the Cartridge World Store on South Livingston Avenue in Livingston, New Jersey.

Jay, the owner, just does not get proper customer service. When things go wrong, he assumes he's right and perfect and YOU , the customer, are all wrong.

Not a way to treat a customer in a business that kind of depends on repeat business.

It's up to you to decide for yourself, but for me personally, I'm not going back to CartridgeWorld anytime soon.

The 411 on 5-1-1. The Department of Transportation has finally launched the new service where you can dial 511 from your cellphone to get real time information about crashes, construction delays and other incidents in the highway around the state. Kind of like the www.njcommuter.com website.

Slow Down for "On The Go"

The Exxon gas station at the intersection of Bloomfield Avenue and Prospect Avenue/Route 23, is always a decent place to get gas.

It's clean, its new, the prices are cheap.

And the "On the Run" food store inside offers good coffee and some great snacks to pick up when you're really on the run .

The happiest place on earth, East Hanover NJ

The happiest place on earth might be in East Hanover, New Jersey.

The kids just love going to Chuck E. Cheese's on Route 10, in East Hanover.

And actually, after our last visit, we realized it might be one of the most cost-effective values that we can consume in terms of entertainment.

For a cup full of quarters, just $5 or $10 you can spend an hour or more there without the kids getting bored. . .

Local Skiing at Camgaw Mountain, Mahwah NJ

If you're up for skiing, but don't want to go too far, there's a local ski slope in Mahwah, NJ which is small, but good for little kids. The lodge is tiny as well, but has a snackbar. And tubing is available in lanes on the left side of the slopes. Here are some pics from last year's season.

Georgie is from Livingston!

Did you know that George Costanza is from Livingston New Jersey?

Yup, he is!

He was born on September 23, 1959 in Newark, New Jersey. His real name is Jay Greenspan. His first performance was in a fourth-grade play as a Nordic explorer. He was so nervous that he threw up on stage. In spite of this experience, he went on acting. Throughout his years at Livingston High School, he performed in school theatrical productions. When he was 15, he adopted the nickname Jason Alexander

Samaurai Sushi Livingston

It's been in town several months, and we just had a chance to visit Samaurai Sushi for the first time this week during lunch. The "dark" ambiance quickly tells you that they invested in the decor of the place and that they are hoping for a vibrant night life at this sushi restaurant.

The lunch specials were quickly shown on the back of their menu and we ordered sushi, sashimi and some tempura. The bento boxes are neatly presented and the sushi did look very fresh. They seem to pay attention to design and presentation as my square plate was specifically served at a diagonal to me. (think eating from a diamond in front of you). As I tried to guide the plate when it was being placed on the table, the server guided it back to the diagonal diamond setting. Ok.

The servers were plenty, but didn't seem to speak English that well. We repeated a lot a lot if you get what I mean.

But bottom line is that the food was fresh, clean and tasty. The average price of $10/bento box was decent given what you get.

I personally still like Zen by Rt 10 circle in Livingston, but this is a welcome addition to the Livingston dining choices.

Flossing for Your Dryer

Everybody knows that you should floss, but do you really do it often enough? Same thing for your dryer at home. One thing you should do regularly and periodically is have the dryer vents cleaned out so that the lint-build-up is removed – as well as any fire hazard because of it!

We’ve used Blaine at Basic Chimney Service and they offer a simple, no-frills service at a no-frills price. Usually about $50.

Sears charges $139 + tax, others quoted $79, $89 and $100+ as well for the same dryer vent cleaning service.
