New Anthony Franco's Pizzaria Location in Livingston: My Home

TGIF. And that usually means that we eat out as a family after a hectic week.

But today, the kids have a unanimous request --- PIZZA. From Anthony Franco's -- but with a twist. They wanted to make it themselves.

So we drove by one of our favorite Livingston pizza joints in the Shop Rite center and picked-up freshly made pizza dough to take home. The kids each broke off a piece and made their own personal pies (it wasn't too salty this time, since they washed their hands this time!).

Pizza is all about the dough. And we had some really good home made pizza in very creative shapes (let's just say, there were no circles in sight). But if was pure fun and purely delicious.

Have you ever thought about making your own pizza at home? Did you know that most pizzarias will sell you their own dough? (And sauce too!)

I scream, you scream......

I scream, you scream, we all scream for pothole repairs!

The winter has been especially harsh on the roads and finally the township of Livingston trucks are out fixing potholes by simply pouring piles of asphalt into them and driving off.

I hope this is not the permanent plan to repair these holes in the road because they get potholed again very quickly...but for the time being at least I don't have to buy new shocks every week.

Town Hall's tel # is 973-992-5000 if you want to let the Dept of Public Works know about pot holes on your block...

Soup's On in Livingston

Hale and Hearty Soups opened a new store at the old site of Bagels & Beyond by Livingston Circle at 464 Westmount Pleasant Avenue on Route 10 West. [Telephone number 973-597-0200]

They're open 7 days and you can find a coupon in this week's West Essex Tribune newspaper for a free cup of soup completely free.

"Give us a try! One taste and you'll be hooked." they claim.

Let me know if they have the right soup for your soul and leave a comment below if you've visited the new store.

p.s. I wonder how the SoupMan on Mt. Pleasant Avenue is doing and what they think of this new competitor in town.

Best Place For Coffee In Madison, NJ (and its not Starbucks)

This morning, I had to get a ton of reading done and needed a place to just sit down and get it all done. There aren't that many places around town to just plop down, enjoy some fresh brewed coffee and do some work...(free WiFi would be nice in this search too).

So while staring at my dashboard I noticed that I needed an oil change for my Honda Odyssey...DING! A light bulb went off in my head and I headed straight for the Madison Honda dealer.
Why? Talk about killing 2 birds with 1 stone:
  • My minivan will get the oil change it needs and the annoying "OIL LIFE" reminder will be wiped off my dash with the secret ninja button combinations that only Honda dealers know about (my local Firestone auto care center had no clue how to reset the oil change reminder on an Odyssey, so I had to bring it to the dealer last time just to wipe off that dash board notice! Ugh!. For $25, it's a decent deal for an oil change with OEM filter and oil.
  • They have a free internet pc in the lounge as well as free WiFi for laptops. I can get work done here just as I can anywhere else.
  • Coffee. They have those nifty Flavia instant brew pod coffee makers which makes a decent cup of joe....free. Just saved myself from giving $4 (or more if go for another cup!) to Starbucks down the street.
  • And if I get bored, I can watch the plasma TV hanging on the wall.

What more could you ask for for a productive Tuesday morning? :-)

Trash Talk in Livingston, NJ

We pay a LOT of taxes in Livingston.

One of the reasons is that the sanitation pick-up guys are paid to go all the way to the back of the house and pick-up the garbage out of the garbage cans if you want. The original intent I believe is so that we don't have empty garbage cans lining the streets twice a week all over the pace. It's plain ugly - and people are willing to pay for this.

The only problem is that many people either don't know about this, or don't follow along. So our tax dollars are kind of going to waste to serve the few (or lazy or both).

There's a SURVEY right now that the Township of Livingston is holding online about this issue. Do your part and take the survey -- and/or stop putting your trash cans out at the curb, and tell the guys to go to your backyard and get the trash themselves -- don't feel guilty -- you've already paid for it!
