Madison NJ University Campus Shooting Simulation

I recently received this "ALERT! Important Notice - Police Training" regarding Drew University in Madison, NJ:

On Tuesday, March 11, 2008, a joint training exercise with Madison Police and Drew University will take place on campus starting at approximately 9:30 am. This training will be confined to the Dorothy Young Arts Building and the Tilghman House area.

Police vehicles and uniformed officers will be on campus operating as a simulated response to an active shooter complaint. The Theater Department will be involved in this training so it will be as realistic as possible.

The Lancaster Road entrance may be closed and traffic may be restricted in the area along Lancaster Road. The training exercise should end at around noon. This exercise is an important response to the violence being experienced today around the country.

IT IS IMPORTANT THAT EVERYONE IS AWARE THAT THIS IS A TRAINING EXERCISE.

If you have any questions, please call the Department of Public Safety (x3379).

Best Place For Coffee In Madison, NJ (and its not Starbucks)

This morning, I had to get a ton of reading done and needed a place to just sit down and get it all done. There aren't that many places around town to just plop down, enjoy some fresh brewed coffee and do some work...(free WiFi would be nice in this search too).

So while staring at my dashboard I noticed that I needed an oil change for my Honda Odyssey...DING! A light bulb went off in my head and I headed straight for the Madison Honda dealer.
Why? Talk about killing 2 birds with 1 stone:
  • My minivan will get the oil change it needs and the annoying "OIL LIFE" reminder will be wiped off my dash with the secret ninja button combinations that only Honda dealers know about (my local Firestone auto care center had no clue how to reset the oil change reminder on an Odyssey, so I had to bring it to the dealer last time just to wipe off that dash board notice! Ugh!. For $25, it's a decent deal for an oil change with OEM filter and oil.
  • They have a free internet pc in the lounge as well as free WiFi for laptops. I can get work done here just as I can anywhere else.
  • Coffee. They have those nifty Flavia instant brew pod coffee makers which makes a decent cup of joe....free. Just saved myself from giving $4 (or more if go for another cup!) to Starbucks down the street.
  • And if I get bored, I can watch the plasma TV hanging on the wall.

What more could you ask for for a productive Tuesday morning? :-)

Safety Alert: Parents Beware!

Four times in September and October 2007, the Police Departments of Madison, New Jersey and Bernardsville, New Jersey received reports where adults drove up the children and try to lure them in to their cars.

The ages of the kids were 11, 12, and middle school age.

None were successful, but we need to remind our children not to talk to strangers.

Do it today don't delay.

Destination: Atlanta. . .

Today, I'm meeting a friend at Atlanta Bread Company. The cafe/coffee house is in Madison, NJ actually.

Kind of like a Panera Bread, they serve coffee, desserts, and sandwiches, etc with a LOT of space for hanging out and meeting up with friends. I don't know if there's much of a differentiator between the two local bakery/coffee houses. Perhaps I'll find out today when I go.

I just looked-up the local "ABC" store and it looks like they offer free WiFi Internet connections to surf while you sip your coffee.

Downtown Madison, New Jersey has a ton of little shops and restaurants and Atlanta Bread Company is just one of them to explore.

Incredible Hulk Sighting In Madison, NJ

It looks like there's 2 days of motion picture filming in the town of Madison, NJ by Drew University for the Incredible Hulk movie.
For the Hulk fans out there in the Garden State, the movie, slated to be released in 2008 is about The Hulk being captured and it's escape:

After hiding out in the northern region of Mongolia, The Hulk is captured by the Russian Government. Before escaping, the Russian Government collects enough DNA from the Hulk to create the Abomination. They send the Abomination to retrieve the Hulk thus preventing him from going to General Ross about the Russians' illegal experiments. From IMDB

The filming involves a scene with a helicoptor circling around over the campus, so keep looking up!
