Penang restaurant on route 10 in East Hanover, New Jersey (Telephone call 973-887-6989) is the best place to get Malaysian and Thai food locally.
Be sure to try the Roti Canai as an appetizer.
Very subtle, but beware that the waiters and staff are all "business savvy" in that they consistently "guide" you to order drinks, appetizers, etc in addition to what you want. It's all done very gently, and you don't notice it until you go a couple of times. They are trained very well in this art of suggestion.
It's a good thing that most all the items on the menu are good. listenPowered by

One of the last places you'd associate with jugglers, pumpkin painting, spooky storytimes, talking deer heads mounted on walls and face painting would be a museum.
But that's exactly where we went this Saturday afternoon -- to the Morris Museum in Morristown NJ. Although it certainly wasn't cheap ($30 for a family of 4), it was a unique and fun event. The staff put a lot of effort into making it fun for the kids with different planned activities and scavenger hunt throughout the museum.
Hits with the kids at this Morris Museum Halloween Extravaganza:
- Face painting
- Story time
- Make your own Boo-bracelets
- And the juggler who seems to following us around everywhere we turned

We met again at the Dublin Pub Friday night in the back room for a great session of classic table fellowship.
The Prime Rib special was a treat. But if you want to ensure a sweet ending to any meeting at the Dublin Pub in Morristown NJ -- literally -- then here's my tip for the day - do some strategic planning when ordering and get the dessert orders in before you do anything! The homemade desserts are a fine feast by themselves and the one that you'll want to feast upon later might not be there anymore. RESERVE your dessert before you even go for that first drink to start the night.
You'll thank me for this tip on your next trip to the Morristown landmark next to the theatre when you're enjoying your sweet ending to your night.Labels: dublin pub, morristown

Four times in September and October 2007, the Police Departments of Madison, New Jersey and Bernardsville, New Jersey received reports where adults drove up the children and try to lure them in to their cars.
The ages of the kids were 11, 12, and middle school age.
None were successful, but we need to remind our children not to talk to strangers.

Touchdown Deli is now open at 498 South Livingston Avenue in the shopping center across the street from Shop Rite shopping center.
Their telephone number: 973-535-8200.
I've seen ads announcing that they're serving breakfast, sandwiches, party platters and they deliver too. Although for breakfast, the Super Duper Bagels shop a couple of doors down has REALLY good hand-rolled bagels...yummmmmmy.

Pelican Ski on route 10 west of Livingston and East Hanover is having a great sale on skis, boots and pole packages for rental.
And the tip of the day is that right now if you go and get your seasonal rental mid week instead of the weekends, you will get $20 off in addition to their cheap prices. I believe our seasonal rental for our kids was $89 which included boots, poles and skis. We rented a helmut for $20 for the season too. It's been a warm October and this week is supposed to stay 75-80 degrees in New Jersey.

What's your favorite park? Playground? Tennis court? or any outside activity around town?

Today, I'm meeting a friend at Atlanta Bread Company. The cafe/coffee house is in Madison, NJ actually.Kind of like a Panera Bread, they serve coffee, desserts, and sandwiches, etc with a LOT of space for hanging out and meeting up with friends. I don't know if there's much of a differentiator between the two local bakery/coffee houses. Perhaps I'll find out today when I go.I just looked-up the local "ABC" store and it looks like they offer free WiFi Internet connections to surf while you sip your coffee.Downtown Madison, New Jersey has a ton of little shops and restaurants and Atlanta Bread Company is just one of them to explore.Labels: madison, New Jersey

We have a meeting tonight in the back room and I was told that I should try out the good old fish and chips -- one of my favorite dishes that I can't resist whenever seen on a menu. The restuarant is on the corner, right next to the theater in Morristown and across the street from the Library.

We had a small repair job done this past spring and it was time to follow-up on another repair that we didn't want to do at the same time. We found our original contractor through Servicemagic.com which is one of best resources for home owners.
Service Magic provides 3-4 qualified contractors that are pre-screened for licensing and liability insurance. And they also have a customer rating system in place so you can go look-up past comments pro and con about each contractor. The system really works to help you find a decent contractor for home improvement and home repair jobs. Estimates are free.
But I don't have the contact info for the original contractor, so I just headed back to ServiceMagic to put in another request. And immediately 3 contractors were matched up with me from our area.
For anyone that's going to use servicemagic.com, there are some tips on using ServiceMagic.com that you really should read before you go and put in a request. READ THE TIPS. . .Labels: contractor, estimate, home improvement, home repair, service magic, servicemagic, servicemagic.com

It looks like there's 2 days of motion picture filming in the town of Madison, NJ by Drew University for the Incredible Hulk movie.
For the Hulk fans out there in the Garden State, the movie, slated to be released in 2008 is about The Hulk being captured and it's escape: After hiding out in the northern region of Mongolia, The Hulk is captured by the Russian Government. Before escaping, the Russian Government collects enough DNA from the Hulk to create the Abomination. They send the Abomination to retrieve the Hulk thus preventing him from going to General Ross about the Russians' illegal experiments. From IMDB
The filming involves a scene with a helicoptor circling around over the campus, so keep looking up! Labels: hulk movie, madison, nj

We had a really pleasant heat spell recently at the end of September/early October -- can't believe we saw 85+ degrees in October!?!?!!?!
But now the weather looks like it's returning back to normal with the chilly early mornings and nights.
This of course means that it's time to close the pool for the season. There are plenty of pool guys around town, but I happened to stumble upon King of Clean LLC out of Bernardsville a couple of years ago and have been using them every year since. Jeff is friendly and flexible for scheduling and was willing to "teach me the ropes" of pool maintenance and ownership along the way, so that I can do most of the stuff during the summer -- very easy once you know the routine.
The other advantage to using someone from outside this immediate local area is that you're not charged "local pricing" from contractors! One quote to open my pool originally was north of $800! King of Clean saved me a couple of hundred bucks in addition to the pleasant service I've enjoyed over the years.
It's important to find good contractors that you can develop relationships with over time. In my case, the pool isn't a headache for me as a home owner because of this type of service. If you're not fully happy with any regular contractor for the pool or any other type of work on your home, perhaps it's time to try someone else?

Mama Tucci's Restaurant on the second floor of the Livingston Town center opened this past year which is an upscale Italian restaurant serving the Livingston neighbourhood.
They originally opened on Saturdays for lunch but I found out recently that they stop serving lunch and now open on Saturday's from 5:00 p.m.
I hope it's not because the food or service is lacking since I've yet to go and want to visit soon (it would have been today for Saturday lunch, but they are closed!).

It's almost time for Halloween and we need a pumpkin for front of our house!
Our favourite place to go is in Chester, New Jersey.
Alstede Farms is a great place to bring the family, not only do they have pumpkin picking, but they also have a huge haystack mountain to play on, haystack tunnel for the kids, corn mazes and animals to feed like goats and pigs. Last time we were there, we picked peaches, apples and raspberries and took the tractor-pulled hayride wagon to the fields.
